A Vision for the Future

Morris Arboretum

Paul W. Meyer, The F. Otto Haas Director

The Campaign for the Morris Arboretum
Campaign Chair(s): Susan Oberwager and John Shober
Campaign Goal: $50 million
Priority Highlights: Horticultural and Education Center, Endowment, Restoration, Directorships, Exhibitions, Internships, Annual Giving

Art and science meet in the historic gardens of the Morris Arboretum. As a protector of the plant life that is essential to our ecosystem, the Arboretum could not be more relevant to the University’s mission to serve humankind. Its research focuses on documenting the Flora of Pennsylvania as well as plant exploration, evaluation and introduction, while it educates the public through tours, classes, displays, and outreach.

UPDATE 2008: THE FIRST YEAR OF MAKING HISTORY
Paul Meyer reflects on the first year of the Campaign and looks ahead...

Last year's greatest fundraising triumph?
Securing a $5 million gift from Mrs. Dorrance H. Hamilton and $5 million in support from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
Biggest (and nicest!) surprise?
The breadth and depth of board support for the campaign.
Most memorable moment?
The groundbreaking for the Horticulture Center after 30 years of anticipation.
Your main focus this year?
Building support for Phase II of the Horticulture Center -- a new Education Center.
What's most exciting about Making History?
The new "Out on a Limb" Tree Adventure Exhibit (opening next summer), which will include a canopy walk that interprets why we need trees in our communities and why trees need our help.
