  • Penn Boosts Outreach to Low-Income Applicants

    Recognizing the need for committed outreach to potential students from disadvantaged economic backgrounds, Penn has greatly increased its efforts to attract low-income applicants.  Already the University's efforts in this area have had tremendous results: the current freshman class is by far the most diverse class ever.  But Penn's recent decision to make all undergraduate financial aid packages loan-free by fall 2009 has spurred the creation of new materials and initiatives designed to showcase the affordability of a Penn education.
  • Making History On the Road: Hong Kong

    On January 12, President Amy Gutmann and Board of Trustees Chair Jim Riepe, W'65, WG'67, took Making History on the road to Hong Kong for the first overseas stop on the campaign rollout tour.  Hong Kong-area Trustees William Cheung, D'81, GD'82, and Raymond K. F. Ch'ien, GR'78, served as hosts for the event, which attracted over 150 Penn alumni, friends, and students. 
  • Sarah Tishkoff Named 6th PIK Professor

    January 25, 2008
    Sarah Tishkoff, a leading global expert in human genetics, has been named the sixth Penn Integrates Knowledge (PIK) University Professor at the University of Pennsylvania. The announcement was made on January 16, 2008, by Penn President Amy Gutmann and Provost Ronald Daniels. Tishkoff will be the David and Lyn Silfen University Associate Professor, named in recognition of a Silfen family gift. Her appointment will be shared between the Department of Genetics in the School of Medicine and the Department of Biology in the School of Arts and Sciences.
  • Penn Expands Financial Aid Program to Eliminate Loans

    The University of Pennsylvania today announced a far-reaching new financial aid initiative that will eliminate loans for financially eligible undergraduate students regardless of family income, making it possible for students from a broad range of economic backgrounds to graduate debt-free.  The program will be phased in beginning in September 2008.  By fall 2009, all undergraduate students eligible for financial aid will receive loan-free aid packages, regardless of family income level.
  • SAS Receives $10 Million Gift to Expand Fox Leadership Program

    Robert A. Fox, C’52, and Penny Grossman Fox, ED’53, have made a gift of $10 million to endow and expand the Robert A. Fox Leadership Program in the School of Arts and Sciences.

    Penn alumni and friends in Boston and Washington, DC, gathered on November 12 and 27, respectively, at events marking the first two stops on the Making History regional rollout tour.

  • Penn Launches "Making History", A $3.5 Billion Fundraising Effort

    It's official: Penn has launched Making History! The five-year, $3.5 billion fundraising effort will empower the University to be, in President Amy Gutmann's words, "an even greater university and an even more extraordinary force for good, here at home and around the world."
  • Center for Community Partnerships Named for Barbara and Edward Netter, C'53

    October 2, 2007
    Penn named its Center for Community Partnerships for a couple whose commitments of more than $10 million will be used in part to replicate nationally CCP's successful university-assisted community schools in West Philadelphia.
  • School of Nursing Receives $5 Million for Work with Elderly, Chronically Ill

    October 1, 2007
    NewCourtland Elder Services, a Philadelphia-based network of nursing homes, made a gift of $5 million to endow the Center for Transitions and Health at Penn Nursing.
